Young Dancer Program

Ballet placement for summer programs may not correspond with your child's fall and spring semester placement at JDT.

 

Creative Movement (age 3-5)

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00-9:45am

Designed for children ages 3-5 years old, this class inspires girls and boys to express themselves through dance. Students will be free to explore their unique style of movement in a structured environment that incorporates music, literature, poetry and props. Instructor: Megan Lujan

 

Rhythm and Motion (age 4-6)

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 9:00-9:45am

Designed for children ages 4-6 years old, students will learn about rhythm and tempo, and how what we hear influences our movement. Using music, props, and improvised instruments, students will practice moving to different sounds. Creative movers are sure to have fun finding their own beat. Instructor: Megan Lujan

 

Pre-Ballet (ages 5-7)

Monday-Saturday, 10:00-11:00am

Pre-Ballet introduces children ages 5-7 years-old to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. While the curriculum focuses on basic positions and vocabulary, it also encourages proper alignment and use of épaulement (angling of the shoulders, neck and head). Students develop confidence, strength and control of their muscles as they learn the progression of a ballet class. Instructor: Megan Lujan

 

Level 1

Monday-Saturday, 11:00am-12:00pm

Level 1 introduces children to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. While the curriculum focuses on basic positions and vocabulary, it also encourages proper alignment and use of épaulement (angling of the shoulders, neck and head). Students develop confidence, strength and control of their muscles as they learn the progression of a ballet class. New students ages 7+, and current JDT Level 1 students, or Instructor placement. Level 2

Monday-Saturday, 12:30-1:45pm

Level 2 emphasizes technical development and presentation. The class focuses on placement, clarity of movement, strength building, and increased flexibility. Students spend more time away from the barre and start working on adagio, pirouettes and beginner jumps. New students ages 8+, and current JDT Level 2A/2B students, or Instructor placement. Level 3/4

Monday-Saturday, 1:45-3:15pm

Level 3 works to incorporate more complex combinations at the barre and in center. Students work on strengthening their technical foundation and vocabulary, while tackling new challenges, such as multiple pirouettes and grand allegro. New students with intermediate ballet experience, current JDT Level 3 and 4, or Instructor placement. Instructor: Megan Lujan
