Logan Holst

Hip Hop Instructor & Johnson Youth Center Outreach Coach

Logan (they/them) was raised in their grandmother’s dance studio. Janice D. Holst taught them ballet, tap, and jazz fundamentals until her retirement in 2013. After that, Logan took part in the inaugural classes for Fusion Dance Co. and went on to join the JDHS Dance Team. Logan was a four-year team member, serving as an officer their junior year and captain their senior year. Notable dance team experiences included competing at USA Nationals in Long Beach, California, and attending Thunderbird Dance Camp. Logan was one of three dancers selected from over three hundred, to receive the Miss Thunderbird award.

Logan attended Universal Technical Institute in Avondale, Arizona, studying welding technology. Upon completion of the program, they returned to Juneau and taught jazz funk, hip hop, and tap at Fusion Dance Co, and worked as an assistant coach for the JDHS Dance Team.

When JDT expanded its programming in 2021, to include the dance team division, Logan continued to work with Christa Baxter and Danielle Cadiente on team choreography, and as a substitute teacher and assistant coach. Logan officially joined the JDT faculty in 2022, as a hip hop instructor, through a special collaboration with the Johnson Youth Center (JYC) and the Division of Juvenile Justice. They teach hip hop, onsite, twice per week, to the institutionalized youth at the treatment facility of JYC. Logan has found great reward and inspiration in working with the teens, and has even created a team name, logo and uniform for them to enhance the experience. JYC management and staff have praised Logan’s work and hope to continue partnering with JDT, to offer an in-house dance program. Logan recently completed their level 1 Dance Teacher University certification through Dance Teacher Web and UNLV and is looking forward to furthering their education as a choreographer and a teacher.
