Soloist, San Francisco Ballet

Julia Rowe was born in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and received her training from Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet School. She joined Oregon Ballet Theatre in 2008 in the corps de ballet and was promoted to the soloist rank shortly thereafter. In 2013, she joined San Francisco Ballet, and was promoted to soloist in 2016. Julia has performed a wide variety of classical and contemporary repertory throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Julia has appeared in principal roles including George Balanchine’s Symphony in C and Serenade and Divertimento No.15, Helgi Tomasson’s Trio and Prism and 7 for 8, Myles Thatcher’s Ghost in the Machine, Val Caniparoli’s Ibsen’s House and Tears and Lambarena, Yuri Possokhov’s Fusion and Violin Concerto, Alexei Ratmansky’s From Foreign Lands and The Seasons, and William Forsythe’s The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, Pas/Parts and Blake Works. Additionally, she has originated principal roles in works by Edwaard Liang (The Infinite Ocean), Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Guernica), Robert Garland (Haffner Serenade), and Yuka Oishi (Bolero). With San Francisco Ballet, she has also danced roles such as Princess Florine in Helgi Tomasson’s The Sleeping Beauty, Cupid in Don Quixote, Moyna in Giselle and Stepsister Clementine in Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella as well as numerous other featured roles in the classical canon. Julia has created a series of dance music videos in collaboration with her husband, the award winning cellist Jonah Kim. Their work is featured on many popular online forums including the string magazine Violinist.com and the UK-based arts station ClassicFM.
