Tara Hench, owner and instructor at Core Pilates Studio is originally from Loysville, Pennsylvania. She was a former soloist dancer at Boston Ballet where she performed numerous principal roles in classical ballets including “Juliet” in Romeo and Juliet, “Giselle” and “Peasant Pas” in Giselle, “The Princess” in Chris Wheeldon’s Firebird and “Sugar Plum Fairy” in The Nutcracker. She also performed in many Balanchine ballets as well as soloist and principal roles in contemporary works such as Jorma Elo, Twyla Tharp, Nacho Duato, Merce Cunningham and William Forsythe productions. She received her ballet training through The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, School of American Ballet and Kirov Ballet Academy. During Tara’s dancing career she sustained numerous injuries where she was introduced to Pilates/Pilates equipment training and the magic of recovery and strengthening; fueling her passion for helping others with The Pilates Method. Upon retiring from dancing, Tara was the ballet director and instructor at Company Dance in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for four years. Tara then obtained a comprehensive Pilates certification through the Physical Mind Institute and founded Core Pilates Studio where she currently remains in her twelfth year. . She has taught Pilates mat classes all over the country including Huntington Dance Company, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Simply Well, H2L studio, Pennsylvania Regional Ballet and Juneau Dance Theater. Tara is Pilates certified through The Physical Mind Institute, International Sports Science Association and is a certified Integrated Movement Specialist through Balanced Body Inc. Specializing in cross training dancers and athletes, Tara is passionate about sharing the many benefits Pilates can offer not only for injury prevention and recovery but for an overall healthful balanced body and mind.
