Máire New

Guest Faculty - 2020 Summer Intensive

Soloist, Samara Academic Theatre of Opera & Ballet

A Juneau native, Máire New is a JDT alumna and the first Alaskan graduate of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (Bolshoi Ballet Academy). She has trained extensively in the Vaganova method of Russian Classical Ballet, and during her time at the academy completed her exams in classical, duet, character, historical, acting, and contemporary dance with the highest marks.

New has performed on the Bolshoi stage and has danced professionally with the Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera & Ballet, the City Ballet of Boston, and Moscow Classical Ballet. She is currently a soloist with the Samara Academic Theatre of Opera & Ballet (Russia). 

New has worked with master pedagogues including Irina Kolpakova and Ludmila Morkovina, pupils of Agrippina Vaganova herself. 

New was featured in the gala "Russian Ballet Stars - Mariinsky and Beyond" last year, and made her principal debut in "Cinderella" at age 22 with Moscow Classical Ballet. She has choreographed several pieces for the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and Youth America Grand Prix, and is fluent in the Russian language. 

She is very excited to work with the students of JDT!
