Recreational Instructor: Breathe Out and Breathe Out
Jamie Shanley began dancing at a young age in Kodiak, Alaska with the Woodland Dance Studio where she studied ballet, jazz, tap and lyrical. During this time, she was trained in the Vaganova method by Alexandr Savinov. She was an officer on the Kodiak High School dance team, attended Thunderbird Dance Camp and competitions with the team. She earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certification at Western Oregon University, majoring in early childhood/elementary education, with a minor in dance. In college, she participated in the dance department's Spring Showcase, studied advanced ballet, ballet history, musical theater, and ballet etymology. She later earned her master's degree in early childhood development from Pacific Oaks College
Jamie moved to Juneau in 2010 and joined Fusion Dance Company's faculty in its early years. She taught creative movement and ballet. It was here she fell in love with teaching dance to adults of all levels of experience. She loves the dedication adults show up with, their drive to push themselves, and the sense of community built by the tribe of dancers. Jamie recently attended "ArtEmotion" in Salt Lake City with Ballet West – an adult ballet summer intensive. She has traveled with the Fusion Dance Team to various competitions, taking classes with world-renowned dancers, teachers and choreographers. When Jamie isn't dancing, she is the Director at the Little Eagles and Ravens Nest Child Care center with Tlingit & Haida. She and her husband Patrick, daughter Noelle, son Beau love to spend their free time skiing in the winter and jet boating to their Taku River cabin the rest of the year. Jamie is honored to be teaching with Juneau Dance Theatre and excited to learn from its faculty and students of all ages.
