JDU is proud to announce another collaboration with the Juneau Student Symphony on March 3rd and 4th at the JACC. Like our previous collaboration (see video), JDU dancers will be accompanied with live music from the Juneau Student Symphony. In this concert, JDU dancers will perform three pieces, Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances No. 7 & No. 8 and Brahms’s Hungarian Dances No. 1. Tickets available in the spring.

JDU is proud to announce our Guest Artist for Nutcracker 2011 – Micahel Galloway, from Company C Contemporary Ballet. Michael Galloway is originally from Madison, AL. Throughout his childhood he studied music, but did not begin his dance training until age 17. After graduating from the Alabama School of Fine Arts, he accepted a scholarship to study at Butler University with many notable teachers including Marek Cholewa, Susan McGuire, Cynthia Pratt, and Derek Reid. With the Butler Ballet he has performed the title roles in ballets such as La Vivandière and Les Sylphides, as well as the pas de trois in Swan Lake and the evil stepsister in Cinderella.

He has also danced original works by numerous choreographers such as Cynthia Pratt, Susan McGuire, and Thomas Lewey. Additionally he performed in Butler Theatre productions as well as the Oranje Festival, an all night performance of interactive multimedia, music, and improvisational dancing. After four years with Butler Ballet he spent one season with Tulsa Ballet where he performed in Raymonda, Swan Lake and The Taming the Shrew. He is now currently dancing as a soloist with Company C Contemporary Ballet.

It’s that exciting time of year in Alaska…distribution of the PFD. On behalf of Juneau Dance Unlimited, we’d like to ask you to consider donating a portion of your check to JDU to support community dance and the annual Fine Arts Camp.

As we continue to build long-term financial stability for the organization, we need your help. If we all get involved our 36 year old non-profit organization will continue to thrive. Together, every contribution can make a difference.

The JDU board has worked to keep tuition as affordable as possible and did not increase rates this year. Currently our tuition income only covers approximately 60% of our costs which include; rent, staff, and essential operating expenses. As you can see our needs are great.

This year’s dividend is $1,174.00.
To give you an idea of how you could use your PFD, consider this…

As we find ourselves approaching the winter holidays, I would like to personally thank all of you, the students, families and friends of JDU for the opportunity you have given to our talented faculty to teach and inspire you. JDU students are now hard at work preparing for our upcoming 2011 Nutcracker performances. With new costumes and new choreography, we are sure to entertain and thrill you with this family holiday ballet classic. As a Non-Profit arts organization, JDU is constantly looking for fundraising opportunities to sustain and nurture our future growth as part of the Juneau fine arts community. I ask you to please read our PFD Letter and consider donating a small percentage of your PFD to JDU. This is a unique “Alaskan” way of supporting JDU.
