Spring Semester: January 8 – May 26, 2018

Class Descriptions and Tuition Rates

Creative Movement

Designed for children ages 3-5 years old, this class inspires your girls and boys to express themselves through dance. Students will be free to explore their unique style of movement in a structured environment that incorporates music, literature, poetry and props.

Boys Class

Boy’s Class is a class for boys and men ages 6 and up. This class will start with basic ballet technique and progress into a focus on men’s steps involving jumps, turns, and male variations.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet introduces children ages 5 and 6 years old to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. While the curriculum focuses on basic positions and vocabulary, it also encourages proper alignment and use of épaulement (angling of the shoulders, neck and head). Students develop confidence, strength and control of their muscles as they learn the progression of a ballet class.

Ballet 1

Ballet 1 builds on concepts taught in Pre-Ballet, with greater emphasis on technical development and presentation. Students spend more time away from the barre and start working on beginner jumps and pirouettes.

Ballet 2 A-B

Ballet 2A and 2B are designed for students who already have a basic understanding of classical ballet technique. The class focuses on placement, clarity of movement, strength building, and increased flexibility. Steps incorporating battu (beats) are introduced. Instructor placement required.

Ballet 3

Ballet 3 continues to build on the syllabus established in Ballet 2, but may incorporate more complex combinations at the barre and in center. Students work on strengthening their technical foundation while tackling new challenges, such as multiple pirouettes.

Ballet 4

Ballet 4 offers more advanced classes and an increased number of lessons per week. Students work on both technical and artistic development, and may participate in a beginner pointe class (upon approval from the Artistic Director).

Ballet 4 Beginner Pointe

In this introductory class, Ballet 4 students who have completed “pre-pointe”, (and determined ready by the instructor), will be fitted for pointe shoes and begin pointe work. Exercises will be primarily at barre, and will focus on strength building and articulation, particularly in the feet and ankles. Special attention is also placed on core stability and maintaining proper alignment. Instructor placement only.

Ballet 5

Ballet 5 includes classes such as Technique, Pointe, Variations, and Partnering (when possible). The syllabus aims to help advanced ballet dancers increase their technical proficiency while developing their artistry through individualized coaching and additional performance opportunities.

Pointe

Pointe class for Ballet 4 and Ballet 5 helps students develop the strength, alignment, and technique necessary to dance en pointe. Working carefully to ensure the safety and success of each student, this class will begin at barre and progress into center as the student’s skills and confidence develop and grow. Pointe class (or Beginner Pointe, if applicable) is considered part of the Ballet 4 and Ballet 5 curricula, and required for all dancers en pointe.

Ballet 5 Variations

Variations class is designed for Ballet 5 dancers to learn repertoire from a wide range of styles. Students may work on solos from classical story ballets such as Swan Lake and Giselle, neoclassical dances by George Balanchine, and contemporary work by some of the most popular choreographers in the dance world today. Students may also rehearse variations for upcoming JDT productions. This class is considered part of the Pointe curriculum, and is strongly recommended for all Ballet 5 students.

Adult/Open Ballet

Adult/Open Ballet is a technique class open to all levels, from beginning to advanced ballet. Each class will be adjusted to meet the varying needs and interests of its participants. Ages 14 and up.

Beginner Tap

Learn the fundamentals of tap technique! Alisha Falberg leads this beginner class open to everyone ages 9 and up. Adults welcome!

Cardio Hip Hop

Cardio Hip Hop is a fun fast paced cardio dance class. Participants will follow along with the instructor to Latin and hip hop beats for an hour of sweat and smiles! Ages 12 and up.

Modern

This one hour class will explore different movement techniques with an emphasis on artistic vision and personal expression. You will experience movement through flow, yoga, floor work, core/spine strengthening combinations, and much more.

Pilates

Janice Hurley leads a Pilates mat class that focuses on alignment, strength building, and conditioning. Bring your own mat or JDT will supply one for you! Exercises are adaptable for individual needs. Open to all levels, ages 12 and up. No dance experience necessary!

Stability and Mobility

Stability & Mobility is a core conditioning, hip & shoulder strengthening, and balance training class using body weight exercises, resistance bands, and the barre. This barre-yoga inspired class will focus on establishing stability and mobility across joints using basic patterns of movement while increasing muscular endurance and efficiency of activities of daily life.
